Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has returned to the Capitol after a three-month absence caused by health issues following a fall and subsequent pneumonia. The 84-year-old Kentucky Republican remains in physical therapy, but his return indicates he can resume at least some legislative duties. A prediction market now prices the likelihood of McConnell resigning before his term ends on Jan. 3, 2027, at 12.5% YES, down from 17.5% previously. McConnell is set to retire when his current term ends. His return follows plans to participate in a Senate vote on Matthew Byrne’s nomination to be a district judge in Ohio and could help advance the stalled farm bill. Observers will focus on his participation in Senate activities and any comments from McConnell, his office, Senate Republican leaders or Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear about his health and ability to serve.
