The Port of Long Beach handled a record 919,992 TEUs in August 2026, up 2% from August 2025 and its fifth-busiest month in 115 years, as U.S. containerized imports rose 3.8% from July to 2,603,709 TEUs. Long Beach imports increased 3.6% year over year to 456,100 TEUs, exports rose 4% to 99,754 TEUs and empty-container moves declined 0.39% to 364,138 TEUs. U.S. August imports were 3.3% above August 2025 and 21.5% higher than August 2019, but transit delays increased at all 10 major gateways. The data indicated resilient cargo demand despite tariff uncertainty, Strait of Hormuz and Red Sea disruptions, tighter Panama Canal capacity and changing supply-chain routes.
