Comcast and Paramount Skydance are reviewing strategic options for SkyShowtime, including a potential shutdown, as their European streaming joint venture faces intensifying competition. Launched in 2022, the service combines programming from NBCUniversal, Sky Studios and Paramount and operates in 22 markets, including Spain, Portugal, Denmark and Sweden, with several million subscribers. The board informed CEO Monty Sarhan on Monday, Sept. 14, and said the review was the start of a dialogue rather than a final decision. SkyShowtime continues operating normally for customers and partners, while employee roles remain unchanged for now. Paramount Skydyne shares rose 4.25% on Monday afternoon after reports of the review, while Comcast gained 0.3%; both stocks remain lower year to date.
