South Korea recorded the largest increase in online interest in stocks and cryptocurrencies among more than 45 countries examined by Coin Insider, with search activity rising 95.7% over 13 weeks compared with the same period in 2025. Singapore ranked second at 66%, followed by Spain at about 61%, Argentina at roughly 50% and Bangladesh at 49%. Searches rose about 30% in both the United States and Canada. The study used Google Trends data from 2025 and 2026, comparing a recent 13-week period with the prior-year equivalent and reviewing four-week trends for persistence. It also considered stock-market capitalization and gross national savings as shares of GDP. Search activity indicates research interest, not completed purchases, account openings or trading volume. South Korea’s interest remained 51% higher year over year in the latest four weeks, alongside stock-market capitalization of 147.2% of GDP and gross savings of 35.6%. The findings come as South Korean authorities consider limiting individual exposure to leveraged single-stock ETFs (funds using borrowed exposure to amplify returns and losses) to 20% of investment assets, while local crypto investors have sought a two-year delay to taxation of virtual-asset gains.
