President Donald Trump is expected to disclose the first U.S. projects under South Korea's $350 billion investment commitment on Friday, Sept. 18, including a Texas gas project, eight nuclear reactors, an Alaskan liquefied natural gas initiative, nuclear-material reprocessing and carbon-capture technology. South Korea's commitment under the July 2025 trade agreement allocates about $200 billion to strategic sectors, subject to a $20 billion annual cap, and $150 billion to shipbuilding, in exchange for U.S. tariffs on South Korean goods falling to 15% from 25%. Seoul and Washington are nearing agreements on an initial project wave worth more than $100 billion, focused mainly on nuclear energy and natural gas. Separately, South Korea is negotiating a roughly 15% stake and board representation in Westinghouse as part of the proposed eight-reactor construction package, seeking influence over governance and reactor intellectual property.
