FuriosaAI enters European AI inference market with Equinix Lisbon deployment

  • FuriosaAI installed Renegade servers at Equinix’s Lisbon data center for European customer testing.
  • FuriosaAI plans to produce 100,000 cards in total by next year.
  • FuriosaAI and Equinix plan expansion into the Americas and Southeast Asia after European PoCs.

South Korean AI semiconductor startup FuriosaAI is using Equinix’s Lisbon data center as its first overseas base, deploying servers powered by its second-generation RNGD (Renegade) accelerator for proof-of-concept testing with European customers. The companies are developing a business network aimed at firms seeking sovereign AI infrastructure, with plans to expand into the Americas and Southeast Asia. FuriosaAI chose Europe because of strong demand for locally operated infrastructure under GDPR, AI regulation and broader data-security requirements. It began mass production of RNGD servers and cards in January and now plans to produce a total of 100,000 cards by next year, revising an earlier monthly-production figure in the existing account. Equinix also presented its distributed AI hub and Fabric Intelligence strategy as AI traffic rises, citing Omdia forecasts of 175% compound annual growth for agentic AI over the five years through 2029 and 90% annual growth for generative-AI traffic through 2027.
