BDACS links KRW1 won stablecoin to Visa payments through Rain

  • Rain added KRW1 support for Visa-linked stablecoin card programs.
  • KRW1-backed cards can be used at more than 175 million Visa merchant locations.
  • BDACS issues and custodies KRW1, backed by Korean won reserves at Woori Bank.

Rain has added support for KRW1, a Korean won-backed stablecoin issued and custodied by BDACS, allowing businesses to launch won-denominated card programs usable at more than 175 million Visa merchant locations. Rain will manage card issuance, program operations and settlement with Visa, while merchants will receive conventional Visa payments. KRW1 is fully backed by Korean won reserves held at Woori Bank and was initially launched by BDACS on Avalanche. The integration uses Rain's infrastructure for more than 130 existing card programs, including daily settlement, and is intended to support uses such as travel, study abroad, corporate expenses and payouts. BDACS separately signed a memorandum of understanding with the Aptos Foundation in May to develop on-chain commerce around KRW1 and expand the stablecoin to the Aptos blockchain.
