President Lee Jae Myung will hold a 90-minute press conference at 10 a.m. on the 18th at the Cheong Wa Dae state guest house, Cheong Wa Dae announced. It will be his seventh press conference since taking office and his first in 102 days since a June 8 event marking his first year in office. The conference comes as his approval rating has fallen to the 30% range. Sung Ki-hong, Cheong Wa Dae’s Chief of Public Communication, said Lee would outline his reform agenda, the government’s focus on people’s livelihoods and his message of national unity. Lee is expected to address recent real estate policies, stock market declines, personnel appointment failures, the dismissal of his criminal indictment and proposals to extend presidential terms. He is also expected to discuss a single-stock leveraged exchange-traded fund, a U.S. request for troop deployment to the Hormuz Strait, the withdrawal of Yong Hye-in as Minister of Gender Equality and Family nominee, and allegations of new drug lobbying involving Kim Seung-won, the Minister of Justice nominee. Lee has reportedly said constitutional term-extension amendments are impossible, while his position on the indictment-dismissal controversy remains undecided.
