The Ministry of Education said on the 15th that it was reviewing measures to cancel applications submitted during extended deadlines by students deemed to have had no prior intention of applying to the relevant universities. The review covers universities that extended early admission deadlines after the Uway Apply system failed at about 5:50 p.m. on September 11, 10 minutes before the original deadline. Seventeen universities had disclosed final competition rates by 6 p.m. on September 11, and the ministry is checking applications submitted during the extended periods. Separately, relief procedures are under way for approximately 1,200 applicants with error logs at the time of the outage. Eligibility is limited to applicants who had records showing an attempt to write, save, submit or pay for an application to a university for which they seek relief, and all three fields—the university, application type and department—must have been completed. The Democratic Party of Korea has also said it will pursue National Assembly measures through the Education Committee, including a review of competition-rate disclosure timing and broader safeguards for the application system.
