Ripple released 1 billion XRP worth roughly $1.38 billion on Sept. 1 through three transactions of 500 million, 400 million and 100 million XRP, but the token did not crash. XRP traded around $1.38 at the release and near $1.42 five days later. Ripple subsequently returned 700 million XRP to escrow (a system that controls token releases), leaving 300 million outside the newly created escrows; that figure does not show how many tokens were sold or reached exchanges. The predictable monthly releases, which have occurred for years, also helped limit the market reaction. At the same time, U.S. spot XRP ETFs drew $14.38 million on Sept. 1, extending an 11-session inflow streak, while Coinpaper said XRP ETFs continued attracting money as Bitcoin funds recorded outflows. XRPL AI payment activity rose 29%, and RippleX discussed XRP collateral as a potential institutional use case. Investors therefore need to track re-escrowed tokens, Ripple's subsequent holdings and transfers, and whether exchange supply actually rises rather than focusing only on the headline unlock figure.
