South Korea's Broadcasting and Media Communications Commission warned on Sept. 16 that false advertisements claiming mobile users can receive an additional 25% bill discount are spreading through online communities and messaging apps ahead of Apple's iPhone 18 launch. Mobile carriers offer a selective contract discount that reduces bills by 25% for customers who choose a service commitment instead of a handset subsidy, but the commission said no separate additional discount exists. It urged users not to call numbers or seek consultations listed in forwarded messages. A separate mandatory contract discount program offering 25% to 30% off monthly bills alongside handset subsidies was abolished in 2015. The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max go on sale in South Korea on Sept. 18, starting at 1.99 million won and 2.19 million won, respectively. Apple's first foldable, the iPhone Duo, launches on Oct. 23 at 3.29 million won, while SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus offer accessory discounts to premium-plan customers.
