Dutch AI semiconductor startup Axelera AI has begun shipping products powered by Europa, its second-generation AI inference chip, extending the company’s focus from edge applications to enterprise servers and data centers. Each chip delivers 629 TOPS of compute performance, while the four-chip Axelera Server 250p PCIe card provides more than 2,500 TOPS, according to the company’s technical documentation. Validated systems are available through Dell Technologies and Supermicro, and Axelera has secured multiple supply contracts for the European Union’s AI Factories initiative, including deployments linked to Italy’s IT4LIA and Luxembourg’s MeluXina projects. CEO Fabrizio Del Maffeo said the contracts are worth tens of millions of dollars in total, without disclosing their precise value. Axelera says more than 600 companies use its products and that its sales pipeline exceeds $1.5 billion, although the pipeline includes negotiations and does not represent confirmed orders or recognized revenue. Founded in Eindhoven in 2021, the company has raised more than $450 million. Europa is designed for heavier inference workloads than the company’s first-generation Metis chip, while a future Titania chiplet architecture is planned for data centers and supercomputers.
