Ottawa Senators forward Drake Batherson signed an eight-year extension worth $86 million, with an annual average value of $10.75 million, running through the 2034-35 season. He will complete his previous contract during the upcoming season at $4.975 million before becoming the highest-paid Senator by total and annual value, according to Spotrac. Batherson, 28, produced career highs of 71 points and 33 goals in 79 games last season. He added four points in four playoff games as Ottawa was eliminated by the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round. Selected in the fourth round of the 2017 NHL Draft, Batherson made his debut in 2018-19 and has increased his point total for seven consecutive seasons, a feat achieved by only one other player in NHL history. His 364 career points rank 10th on Ottawa's all-time scoring list.
