The 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games could generate between $20.5 billion and $40.6 billion in economic activity across Greater Los Angeles and support as many as 224,000 jobs, according to an analysis by the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation commissioned by LA28. The estimates cover the preparation period through the Games’ conclusion and include Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties. Games-related infrastructure investment, including transportation, airport, mobility, accessibility and venue upgrades, is projected to be the largest source of impact, with about $8.35 billion already accelerated or undertaken in connection with the event. The study also includes LA28 operations, capital projects, spending by independently funded organizations and activity from about 2 million visitors. Visitor spending in Los Angeles County is estimated at $1.6 billion to $4.3 billion, while Games-related activity could generate $5.1 billion to $5.9 billion in combined federal, state and local tax revenue. LA28 is pursuing a no-build strategy centered on existing venues and temporary facilities and says it aims to direct 75% of addressable procurement spending to Greater Los Angeles businesses, including 25% to local and small businesses. The projections use both a conservative framework focused on new outside spending and an IMPLAN input-output model measuring broader gross activity.
