Micron Technology appointed Deirdre Hanford as president of Micron Research Labs, its long-term semiconductor research arm, resolving an earlier lack of public confirmation about her role at the company. The Boise, Idaho-based initiative, announced in August 2026, is backed by a planned $10 billion investment over the next decade and will research future memory and computing architectures, advanced packaging and next-generation chip manufacturing. Hanford spent 37 years at Synopsys and will oversee the lab’s research strategy and partnerships with universities, governments, startups and technology companies. The project forms part of Micron’s broader plan to invest more than $250 billion in U.S. manufacturing and research and development. Micron shares were up 0.69% at $933.99 in Wednesday’s premarket trading, while analysts cited continued strength in memory-company margins and industry returns. The stock remains 48.6% above its 200-day moving average but 2.2% below its 20-day average, with resistance near $1,012 and support around $887.50. Micron is scheduled to report earnings on Sept. 30, with Wall Street expecting earnings of $31.30 per share and revenue of $50.78 billion.
