Michael Burry, the investor known for predicting the 2008 housing collapse, is joining Minerva Investment Management as a senior adviser to help launch a short-biased fund. He will work with Lakshmi Ganapathi, founder and CEO of Unicus, a Minerva affiliate. The fund is expected to launch within a month. Burry has criticized AI hyperscalers and chip companies for extending depreciation schedules to make earnings appear stronger, and he holds bearish positions on Nvidia and Palantir. Unicus says some of its biggest returns came from short positions in Faraday Future and Carvana, and it has also taken bearish views on Snowflake, Moderna and Robinhood. Burry closed Scion Asset Management in late 2025, with earlier reporting placing the closure in November, and now publishes investment views through a paid Substack newsletter under the pseudonym Cassandra Unchained. Unicus has issued 59 short recommendations since around 2020, with all but six reportedly profitable.
