Salesforce Chairman and CEO Marc Benioff rejected the "SaaSpocalypse" idea that artificial intelligence will replace software-as-a-service, arguing at Dreamforce 2026 in San Francisco that AI must evolve from helping humans perform tasks to directly executing enterprise work. Benioff said "what's disappearing isn't software, but software designed for humans to do everything" and argued that AI models alone cannot run a company because probabilistic reasoning must connect to enterprise data, permissions and business rules. Salesforce's ClaudeForce approach allows users to reason and ask questions in Claude while record changes and multi-step workflows are executed through Salesforce. Benioff also described companies' accumulated data, metadata and business knowledge as "trapped value" and said Salesforce generated $500 million in sales pipeline last quarter through sales agents Hunter and Piper, while service agent Casey handled 5 million inquiries over roughly 18 months. Salesforce's fiscal 2027 second-quarter revenue rose 11% year over year, and cRPO (contracted future revenue) reached $33.5 billion, up 14% on a constant-currency basis. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei said AI safety requires companies to improve internal verification, establish common industry standards and pursue international cooperation. He estimated that only 5-10% of AI's potential value is currently being used, while stressing that the figure is not an enterprise adoption or productivity statistic. The discussion framed the future of SaaS around how much work systems complete with humans, rather than how many people log into them.
