The U.S. Justice Department urged a federal court to require states challenging Paramount Skydance’s $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery to post a bond covering losses from any delay. The department said states and private plaintiffs seeking a preliminary injunction (temporary court order) under federal antitrust law must cover potential damages if the order is later overturned. A coalition of 12 states led by California argues the deal would create a media company able to raise film and television prices, while the Writers Guild of America has separately sued. Paramount has requested a $1.88 billion bond and faces a $7 million daily fee if the acquisition does not close by September 30. The company said the case’s March trial and April ruling and final briefs could leave it owing Warner Bros. shareholders $1.3 billion in unrecoverable ticking fees.
