NBA commissioner Adam Silver said it would be a failure if the Trail Blazers left Portland, as negotiations between new owner Tom Dundon and the city remain acrimonious. Silver offered help from himself and the league office to reach an agreement supporting long-term NBA and WNBA (women’s professional basketball league) operations in Portland. A framework exists for a $586 million renovation of Moda Center, which the city owns, but no final deal has been reached. Portland has approved $120 million, Multnomah County $101 million and Oregon committed $365 million, with the state funding set to expire on Dec. 31 if an agreement is not in place. Silver said Portland needs a state-of-the-art arena, noting that Moda Center opened in 1995 and ranks near the bottom among league arenas by objective measures. Dundon agreed in August 2025 to buy the Trail Blazers from the estate of Paul Allen for a reported $4.25 billion and also owns the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes.
