NAVER and Asian renewable energy developer Gurīn Energy signed a memorandum of understanding on Sept. 16 to secure renewable electricity for NAVER’s data centers as artificial intelligence and cloud infrastructure drive higher power demand. NAVER will pursue a partial equity investment in Gurīn Energy’s 216-megawatt Jindo Green Solar project in Jindo, South Jeolla Province, alongside a long-term power purchase agreement. The companies plan to negotiate the investment size and power supply terms, targeting a definitive agreement by the end of this year. Gurīn Energy will develop and manage the project, while NAVER plans to use its electricity at the Gak Sejong and Gak Chuncheon data centers and other AI and cloud infrastructure. The initiative extends NAVER’s direct-investment approach to renewable generation after its April investment in a GS wind power plant and related PPA. NAVER said the strategy supports its 2040 carbon negative goal as data-center electricity demand grows.
