Korean Air has completed a $44.8 billion aircraft, engine and maintenance procurement package with Boeing, GE Aerospace and CFM International, formalizing a U.S. purchase plan announced in Washington, D.C., last August. The package includes 103 Boeing aircraft valued at $36.2 billion, 21 spare engines and a 15-year GE Aerospace engine-maintenance agreement covering 28 aircraft. Korean Air signed final contracts in Seoul as it prepared to launch its integrated airline with Asiana Airlines on Dec. 17 and begin changing Asiana flight codes sequentially in November. The Boeing order comprises 20 777-9s, 25 787-10s, 50 737-10s and eight 777-8 Freighters, lifting Korean Air's Boeing order backlog to 175 aircraft. Boeing said the finalized order supports Korean Air's fleet modernization and reflects strengthened U.S.-South Korea industrial ties following bilateral trade negotiations.
