South Korea and Tajikistan established a comprehensive partnership during Tajik President Emomali Rahmon’s official visit to Seoul for the Korea-Central Asia Summit. President Lee Jae Myung and Rahmon held a summit, while Prime Minister Han Seong-sook separately discussed expanding economic and people-to-people ties with the Tajik leader. The countries signed 17 agreements and memorandums of understanding covering railways, critical minerals, electricity networks, artificial intelligence, digital technology, security and intellectual property protection. They also discussed investment, hydropower, renewable energy, agricultural processing, textiles, direct flights, Tajik workers entering South Korea through the Foreign Employment Permit System, cultural exchanges and education. Han said bilateral trade reached a record $350 million last year, while Rahmon highlighted Tajikistan’s mineral resources, including antimony, and its new AI-focused IT hub complex in Dushanbe.
