HD Hyundai Construction Equipment will supply 45 excavators for the Hong Kong urban railway Tung Chung Line extension project led by the Hong Kong Railway Corporation. The order comprises seven DEVELON 53-ton excavators and 38 mid-to-large machines ranging from 14 to 36 tons, which will be used to build new stations and extend the railway by about 1.2 kilometers. The company said it prevailed over Chinese equipment makers competing aggressively on price through product competitiveness, including fuel efficiency and customer service. The reclaimed coastal construction site has soft ground, supporting possible demand for specialized equipment such as long-reach arms and potentially 80-ton and 100-ton ultra-large models. HD Hyundai Construction Equipment has sold 75 units in Hong Kong this year, making it the largest local equipment supplier over the past five years, and targets annual sales of more than 100 units by 2029. Hong Kong invests about HK$90 billion annually in public infrastructure, with annual investment projected to reach HK$120 billion once the Northern Metropolis project is fully underway.
