Japan's Nikkei Stock Average rose 438.90 points, or 0.69%, to close at 63,923.00 on September 16, ending four consecutive sessions of declines and finishing near its intraday high. The rebound followed a decline of more than 1,700 points over the preceding three sessions, with afternoon purchases of large-cap technology, artificial intelligence and semiconductor shares reversing a weak morning. Advantest, Tokyo Electron, Fast Retailing and Recruit Holdings advanced, while oil and resource shares also benefited from elevated crude prices. Prime Market trading value totaled about ¥6.7 trillion, with 1,054 shares rising and 436 falling. Investors remained focused on the FOMC decision due early on September 17 in Japan, with a 0.25% rate increase viewed as the market consensus, as well as the projections and policy signals from Fed Chair Warsh.
