Domestic sales of Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Z Fold 8 rose about 10% week on week in the seven days from Sept. 10, when Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo, through the previous day, according to industry sources cited on Sept. 17. The increase contradicted expectations that buyers would delay purchases and was attributed to pent-up demand shifting toward Samsung's device as consumers reacted negatively to the iPhone Duo's price, specifications, portability and delayed launch. Apple's 256-gigabyte iPhone Duo costs $1,999 in the United States and 3.29 million won to 5.09 million won in South Korea, compared with a U.S. launch price of $1,899.99 and a Korean price range of 2.28 million won to 3.15 million won for the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Samsung is projected to lead the foldable market this year with a 38% share, followed by Apple at 25%, according to Counterpoint Research.
