Korea Exchange's (KRX) after-market trading value fell nearly 45% to approximately 1.0074 trillion won ($736.5 million) on September 15, the second day after the session launched on September 14, allowing rival alternative trading system Nextrade (NXT) to lead with 1.1987 trillion won ($876.4 million). KRX still led in share volume, but its broader stock coverage fragmented liquidity and contributed to 1,249 static and dynamic Volatility Interruption (VI) triggers. Interactive Brokers (IBKR) welcomed longer trading hours as a way to improve liquidity and help overseas investors respond to global developments, but criticized the exclusion of exchange-traded funds (ETFs), which it said limits investor choice despite client demand. KRX is reviewing longer-term 24-hour trading and eventual ETF inclusion, although experts say deeper liquidity, broader participation and stronger risk controls are needed first.
