Ethereum and Coinbase-backed Base have ended efforts to align two account-abstraction proposals after developers concluded that a shared design would require unacceptable compromises. Ethereum's EIP-8141, or Frame Transactions, prioritizes censorship resistance, privacy, security and post-quantum readiness, while Base's EIP-8130 emphasizes scale, customization and compliance. Both proposals aim to make wallets easier to use by supporting features such as passkey authentication, sponsored fees and transactions that do not require users to hold ETH. If both designs are deployed, wallets may need to support two native transaction formats. Ethereum has placed EIP-8141 on the path toward its upcoming Hegotá upgrade, while EIP-8130 proposes a new transaction type and an onchain Keystore for approved signers and authenticators.
