Abeona Therapeutics said on Sept. 16, 2026, that University of Florida Health in Gainesville has become the eighth Qualified Treatment Center for ZEVASKYN (prademagene zamikeracel), its autologous gene-modified cellular-sheet therapy for wounds in adult and pediatric patients with recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa. UF Health is the sole ZEVASKYN treatment center in the Southeastern United States and has begun identifying and onboarding eligible patients. ZEVASKYN uses a patient’s own skin cells, modified outside the body with a functional COL7A1 gene, to produce type VII collagen in treated wounds. Abeona said the therapy has shown clinically meaningful wound healing and pain reduction after a single surgical application. RDEB is a rare disorder caused by defects in both copies of COL7A1, leaving skin fragile and prone to severe, persistent wounds. Treatment access and patient support are available through UF Health’s EB Clinic and Abeona Assist.
