J.B. Hunt Transport Services warned that third-quarter earnings would fall 5% to 10% from the second quarter as diesel, driver, claims and medical costs outpace freight-rate adjustments. Shares fell 13% on Sept. 16, their steepest one-day decline since March 2020, after management cited nearly $10 million in additional fuel costs and about $25 million in incremental driver-related expenses. Citizens subsequently upgraded the stock to market outperform from market perform and set a $300 price target, implying roughly 27% upside from Wednesday's close, saying surcharges and freight rates should eventually offset costs. Diesel prices had risen 37.3% since the July 4th weekend, while intermodal drayage faced particularly tight driver shortages. LSEG data showed that 14 of 25 analysts covering J.B. Hunt rated it buy or strong buy.
