Michigan’s average price for regular gasoline jumped 21 cents overnight to $4.75 per gallon, driven by international oil-market volatility and regional supply disruptions. Branch County prices rose nearly 30 cents in 24 hours to $4.85, up from $4.59 on Wednesday. The statewide average exceeded the national average of $4.38, while select Indiana markets approached $4 despite a state gas-tax holiday. Lansing-area stations have begun posting prices near $5 per gallon, and Michigan’s record remains $5.11, set in June 2022. GasBuddy analyst Dillon Bondey said multiple factors were contributing to the sharp increases. Earlier market disruptions had pushed oil above $104 per barrel and diesel prices in some affected areas toward $7 per gallon, with security concerns in the Middle East and interruptions to regional energy infrastructure adding pressure to global fuel markets.
