Irving Forest Products, a subsidiary of J.D. Irving, Limited, is modernizing its Ashland Sawmill in Nashville Plantation, Maine, doubling annual lumber capacity from 130 million to 250 million board feet. The project is expected to create and retain the equivalent of 220 permanent, full-time jobs, with benefits and pay at or above a living wage for Aroostook County, while supporting regional foresters, loggers, truckers and other upstream workers. Federal and Maine New Markets programs are providing a combined $112.9 million in tax-credit allocations through seven Community Development Entities, with investments generating approximately $44 million in federal and state tax credits. TD Community Development Corporation provided a $10 million allocation and supported $49 million in related investments. Irving rebuilt the mill in 2014 and has continued investing in it as a major employer and contributor to the Aroostook community.
