Baron Capital founder Ron Baron told CNBC that now is the time to buy Tesla stock, identifying the company’s paid Full Self-Driving software as the next potential driver of its share price. His firm holds roughly $5 billion in Tesla shares and about $25 billion in SpaceX, together representing a major portion of its investments in Elon Musk’s companies. Tesla reported 1.48 million active FSD subscriptions in the second quarter, up 56% from a year earlier, while 55% of new North American deliveries included the software at purchase. Baron said FSD is growing 55% annually. He also pointed to Tesla’s US EV market share, which rose to 52% through August from 43%, even as total US EV sales fell 30% and Tesla deliveries declined 16% to 325,351. Tesla traded near $358 on Wednesday, up 0.3%, giving it a market value of about $1.4 trillion. TipRanks data showed a Moderate Buy consensus among 26 analysts, with an average price target of $377.08. Elon Musk again declined to rule out combining Tesla with SpaceX, while Baron said he would support whichever course Musk chooses. Tesla’s next delivery report will provide a further test of the company’s delivery and FSD momentum amid a contracting US EV market.
