Zcash Labs is committing $80,000 to help Ledger integrate Ironwood, allowing users to store their own Zcash privately through supported products. The upgrade comes as the network transitions from Orchard, whose flaw exposed a hidden risk to the privacy coin’s supply. Researchers have formally checked more than 2,700 theorems covering key balance-protection mechanisms in Ironwood, increasing assurance that the new pool cannot create additional ZEC through the same type of flaw. However, migration and adoption still depend on smooth support across Ledger devices, software wallets, and exchanges. Gemini supports Ironwood withdrawals, while many other exchanges have not yet added the feature. Ironwood holds approximately 3.95 million ZEC, compared with around 415,000 ZEC in Orchard, and shielded transactions account for almost 50% of daily activity. Zcash Labs says 88.5% of Orchard funds have migrated.
