Ssangyong Engineering & Construction has secured a sole contract from Singapore’s Ministry of Health to build Tengah General Hospital for approximately $2.2 billion, or 3 trillion won. The project is the company’s largest single order, equivalent to about 1.7 times its annual revenue of 1.8 trillion won last year. The hospital in Singapore’s western Tengah district will comprise seven buildings with three basement levels and nine above-ground floors, and will provide 1,534 beds. Design and construction are scheduled to take 63 months. The National University Health System will operate the facility as an integrated medical campus incorporating clinical research and digital healthcare solutions. Ssangyong was the only South Korean builder to pass prequalification and beat Japanese and Chinese competitors in a final field of four bidders despite not submitting the lowest bid, winning high technical scores for design completeness, construction risk management and hospital-building experience. The contract follows the company’s extensive Singapore track record and expands its overseas order book after six Dubai projects worth about 1.4 trillion won since joining Global Sae-A Group in December 2022.
