Clearlake Capital now owns all of Chelsea Football Club after completing its acquisition of Todd Boehly and Mark Walter’s minority stakes on September 16. The co-founders of the private-equity firm, Behdad Eghbali and José E. Feliciano, paid approximately £950 million combined for the 25.6% holding, valuing Chelsea at roughly £5 billion including debt. Boehly, who became chairman during the 2022 takeover, is stepping down from that role. The transaction ends a partnership marked by reported tensions over the stadium and sporting operations, with buyout discussions reportedly beginning by August 2026. Clearlake and its partners have said no immediate changes to Chelsea’s operations, leadership structure, or strategic direction are expected. Hansjörg Wyss remains a stakeholder, although Clearlake now holds the commanding position. The club finished 10th in the Premier League last season, while its valuation has approximately doubled from the £2.3 billion to £2.5 billion paid for it in 2022.
