Taiwan's TAIEX climbed as high as 47,061.57 points on the 18th, up 773.57 points or about 1.56%, after opening 161.56 points higher at 46,449.56. The rally followed broad gains on Wall Street, including a 3.14% jump in the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, and was led by TSMC, MediaTek, ASE Technology Holding and other electronics shares. Projected turnover reached NT$1.04 trillion (approximately $32.6 billion), while the TPEx Index rose 2.05%, indicating that buying extended beyond large-cap stocks. United Microelectronics surged more than 8% after its ADR gained 8.61% overnight. Memory, mature-node foundry, silicon IP and PCB shares also advanced, while transportation, oil and gas, and food stocks declined. Analysts said easing immediate concerns over Federal Reserve policy, stronger earnings expectations and domestic policy support had improved sentiment, but warned that elevated profit-taking and theme-driven trading made position control important.
