US alternative asset manager Brookfield will invest up to $600 million in India’s ACME Cleantech Ventures to develop and build green ammonia and green methanol projects. The investment will come through Brookfield Global Transition Fund and marks its entry into the region’s low-carbon fuels sector. ACME said the funding will support an advanced project pipeline in India and Oman, with output intended for domestic and export markets. The company has supply agreements with Yara International, IHI Corporation, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical and Indian buyers. Demand for green fuels is expected to increase as industries seek alternatives to fossil fuels to reduce emissions and meet decarbonisation targets. Brookfield already holds about 50 gigawatts of operating and pipeline wind and solar assets in India.
