Strategy Inc., formerly MicroStrategy, has again surpassed Berkshire Hathaway in daily share-trading volume as investors trade the stock as leveraged exposure to the company’s Bitcoin reserve. MSTR closed September 16 at $126.18 after 22.13 million shares changed hands, compared with 5.25 million shares in Berkshire’s Class B stock. Strategy’s average daily volume was about 23.54 million shares versus 4.40 million for Berkshire B, even though Berkshire’s market value exceeded $1.1 trillion and Strategy’s was roughly $50 billion. Strategy also briefly overtook Ford Motor Co. in market capitalization on September 15 before falling below Ford’s roughly $53 billion value after a subsequent decline. Strategy’s official ledger showed 845,050 BTC as of August 31, acquired at an average cost of about $75,412 per coin for $63.73 billion. The company has funded its Bitcoin strategy through equity and debt issuance, while also selling some Bitcoin to support preferred dividends and a dollar reserve. Its shares remain highly sensitive to Bitcoin prices and capital-structure developments.
