GlobalFoundries and Marvell Technology are expanding their multi-year collaboration on silicon-germanium (SiGe) and silicon photonics to increase manufacturing capacity for optical networking used in AI and cloud data centers. The agreement will add capacity at GlobalFoundries' Burlington, Vermont, facility for Marvell's growing requirements, including technology supporting pluggable optical transceivers, Near-Packaged Optics (NPO) and Co-packaged Optics (CPO). The companies are targeting 400G-per-lane connectivity below 5 picojoules per bit, while GlobalFoundries' current technology supports 200G per lane and its roadmap covers faster generations. CEO Tim Breen said optical networking adoption in AI data centers remains in the "very early innings," while CFO Sam Franklin raised the company's 2026 communications infrastructure and data center growth outlook to 50%-60% from the high-30% range. GlobalFoundries shares rose 5.79% to $45.52 and Marvell shares gained 4.34% to $239.68 in premarket trading on Thursday, according to Benzinga Pro data.
