Tesla's specialized Optimus manufacturing facility at Giga Texas is nearing structural completion about six months after groundwork began, as the company prepares its first thousand-unit-scale procurement commitment for approximately 5,000 robots. Aerial footage shared by independent observer Joe Tegtmeyer on September 17, 2026, showed steel installation roughly five column grids from the northern perimeter beam, concrete being poured across three elevated floors, and continuing rebar, footing and grade-beam work at ground level. Tesla has also completed approval of the 5,000-robot order and is evaluating suppliers across Shanghai, Hangzhou, Ningbo and Xiamen, including established manufacturers such as Sanhua Intelligent Control, Tuopu Group and Xinjian Transmission. The Texas complex is targeted to begin high-capacity production in summer 2027, while Fremont is producing Gen 3 robots at pilot scale for field data and software refinement. Tesla has not made Optimus available to ordinary consumers, and its production forecasts have repeatedly changed.
