The Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry advanced the Agricultural Act of 2026 out of committee. The legislation complements the bipartisan Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, led by House Committee on Agriculture Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson (PA-15) and passed by the House of Representatives in April. Thompson called the Senate action a significant step toward restoring certainty and common sense to agricultural policy, while criticizing Senate Democrats for not supporting American producers. He said passing a full, five-year farm bill remains his top priority and that he would work with lawmakers making good-faith efforts to support producers in the coming months.
