The New York Knicks halted individual ticket sales after a pricing error pushed the get-in price for their Oct. 20 season opener against the Philadelphia 76ers to $1,251, according to TicketData.com. The price had reached $1,363 when public sales opened Wednesday and briefly climbed to $1,408 when tickets became available Monday to Knicks Fan First Chase cardholders; TicketData.com previously reported a peak of $1,962 after the matchup was announced in August. Madison Square Garden Sports said it would restore last year’s prices plus an average 12% increase, restart sales with revised prices shortly, and refund the difference to fans who already purchased individual tickets. The Knicks are coming off their first NBA championship in 53 years, secured by beating the San Antonio Spurs in five games in last year’s NBA Finals. Their 45 scheduled preseason and regular-season home games currently average $262 for get-in tickets, compared with $130 for the Los Angeles Lakers, $99 for the Boston Celtics, and $23 each for the Charlotte Hornets and Memphis Grizzlies. The opener is highly anticipated after Philadelphia added LeBron James and Jaylen Brown to a lineup featuring Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.
