Bloxtel, a San Francisco-based startup founded in 2022, is building onchain decentralized private 5G infrastructure on Avalanche alongside the launch of its AP201 device. The all-in-one access point is designed to run full core-network functionality at the edge, rather than sending all traffic through centralized cloud infrastructure. It supports US band 48 and international band 78 and is being manufactured through Askey Computer Corp., a subsidiary of ASUS. Bloxtel’s architecture combines patented dSIM technology, which uses asymmetric PKI-based authentication, with Open6GC, a core-network platform incorporating AI-driven automation and predictive maintenance. The company claims its system can reduce security threats by 70%, cut latency by 80%, lower costs by 90% and increase network capacity tenfold compared with traditional setups. The AP201 is slated for availability in Q4 2026, while pricing for small-cell deployments starts at $499 per month under a setup-fee-plus-monthly-charge model. Bloxtel had previously been developing its Operator dApp and network-management tools on a custom permissioned private blockchain. Its leadership includes co-founder Izzo Wane, a former AT&T executive who founded Simless, and co-founder Karsten Ohme, who worked at Deutsche Telekom and T-Systems in cryptography. Bloxtel joined the OnGo Alliance in September 2024, supporting private 5G deployments using CBRS spectrum.
