Grayscale Research said the Federal Reserve’s 25-basis-point benchmark rate increase is unlikely by itself to materially change the investment environment for cryptocurrencies. One basis point equals 0.01 percentage point. The firm also said higher rates could support earnings growth for stablecoin (cryptocurrency designed to maintain a stable value) issuers Circle (CRCL) and Tether, whose reserve assets include substantial holdings in interest-bearing instruments. If rates remain high, income from those holdings could increase. Cointelegraph reported the assessment on September 17.
