The United Arab Emirates detained a Swedish national wanted under an Interpol Red Notice for suspected money laundering, while Swedish police simultaneously arrested six other alleged members of his gang. Legal proceedings have been opened against all seven, none of whom has been publicly named. Over roughly 10 months, the network handled about 70 million Swedish kronor, about 26.5 million dirhams and nearly $7.1 million, collecting crime proceeds, passing them to other criminal actors and using cryptocurrencies to move and conceal the value. UAE authorities said transaction tracing and digital-evidence analysis were used to investigate possible links to organized crime and contract killings. The operation was described by UAE and Swedish officials as the result of direct coordination, as the UAE expands its use of virtual-asset tracing within its anti-money-laundering efforts.
