South Korea’s KOSPI opened 2.54% higher at 6,885.70 on Sept. 18 and was up 2.47% at 6,881.53 by 9:01 a.m., recovering swiftly after the Federal Reserve’s benchmark rate increase. The Kosdaq rose 0.97% to 830.09, extending its advance to a fourth consecutive session. Technology shares led the rebound after Wall Street gains pushed the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index up 3.14%, while lower oil prices and a 9-basis-point decline in the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield to 4.93% supported risk appetite. Foreign investors bought a net 128 billion won and institutions purchased 178 billion won on the KOSPI, while retail investors sold 341 billion won. Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and Samsung Electro-Mechanics advanced, while Orum Therapeutics fell to its daily limit after a partner halted development of a blood-cancer antibody-drug conjugate candidate. The won held at 1,382.2 per dollar.
