Haitai Confectionery will raise prices across 25 brands in snacks, biscuits, chocolate and candy by an average of 7.8% from Oct. 1, with timing staggered according to retailers’ inventory. Candy prices will rise the most by category, averaging 10.0%, followed by snacks and chocolate at 9.8% and biscuits at 9.4%. Some products will retain their prices but contain less, as the company cuts the weight of 14 items across five brands. Haitai attributed the changes to higher manufacturing and logistics costs caused by rising international oil and raw-material prices. The increases follow price adjustments by CJ CheilJedang, Sajo, Ottogi, Pulmuone and Paris Baguette across South Korea’s food industry.
