Foreign Minister Cho Hyun is set to meet U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on Friday, with talks expected to center on South Korea’s $350 billion investment commitment and its potential contribution to security in the Strait of Hormuz. The meeting follows Cho’s discussions with bipartisan lawmakers on strengthening economic, trade and security cooperation and President Lee Jae Myung’s call for Seoul’s national interests to be protected in negotiations over the investment package. Cho also urged Congress to support swift implementation of last year’s Korea-U.S. summit Joint Fact Sheet and maintain interest in the alliance after the U.S. midterm elections in November.
