Solana activated 250-millisecond target slots at the epoch 1037 boundary on Sept. 18, bringing the network to four targeted slots per second from roughly 3.3. The change is the fourth stage of SIMD-0525, Anza's five-stage plan to reduce slot times from 400 milliseconds to a final 200-millisecond target. Per-slot limits have been scaled down to keep aggregate execution capacity broadly constant: the 250-millisecond configuration allows 37.5 million compute units and up to 20,480 data and coding shreds, versus 60 million compute units and 32,768 shreds at the 400-millisecond baseline. Epochs remain fixed at 432,000 slots, so their duration contracts to roughly 30 hours, while four-slot leader windows fall to one second. One 200-millisecond stage remains, but no activation date has been announced.
