French President Emmanuel Macron said France will convene a G7 energy meeting within weeks and seek a European Union response as conflicts involving Iran, Israel and the United States threaten crude supplies and fuel prices reach historic highs. Discussions will cover crude versus refined-product releases, inventory coordination, exports, production capacity and avoiding tensions among G7 members and partner countries. Macron said France would discuss an EU-level response with the European Commission president and that a short-term United States-Iran agreement on the Strait of Hormuz was unlikely. European diesel prices exceeded $200 a barrel, while tax-inclusive retail prices reached $300. The meeting follows the International Energy Agency members’ record 400 million-barrel coordinated release in March 2026, which did not sufficiently curb European fuel-price increases. France is also working to secure diesel, jet fuel and natural-gas supplies and plans further measures to ease energy costs.
